Birch Burr / Burl

Logs come from the region of Karelia that borders Russia and Finland.
Logs are very small and are therefore peeled which gives a repeatable pattern.
Very rarely a log is big enough to slice and this is called ” Long Grain” veneer.
Mostly used for highly decorative furniture and very rarely for panelling.
Historically the Tsars furniture ” The Imperial Furniture” was made in Karelian Birch Burl
